ISTANBUL, 7 November 2016: Chaudhry Jafar Iqbal, Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, represented Pakistan in “Istanbul Security Conference 2016,” organized by Turkish Asian Center for Strategic Studies (TASAM) in co-operation with National Defence and Security Institute (MSGE). A large number of delegations from Turkey and abroad from defence and security circles, think-tank and civil society attended the conference. Themed “Changing Nature of State: Borders of Security,” the conference was held in Istanbul from 2-4 November 2016.
Delivering a speech at the inaugural session of the conference, Ch. Jafar Iqbal spoke about changing regional security environment and border management. He also shared Pakistan’s experience in responding to security challenges and evolving a national approach to security. He said Pakistan is fighting a decisive war against terrorism. He highlighted that despite suffering enormous human and economic losses, Pakistani society has maintained its resilience. He informed about the National Action Plan, which was evolved with consensus of all the political parties. He said the ongoing successful military operation Zarb-e-Azb against militancy had achieved tremendous success.
Ch. Jafar Iqbal also briefed about brutalities in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir perpetrated by Indian security forces. He said the world should take notice of human rights violations of innocent Kashmiris. He also referred to continuous violations of the ceasfire by India on the Line of Control and Working Boundary.
Chaudhury Jafar Iqbal, who was accompanied by Defence Attache Air Commodore Abbas Ghuman, met with Minister for Economy of Afghanistan Mr. Abdul Sattar Murad, as well as Chairman of TASAM Mr. Süleyman ŞENSOY and discussed matters of mutual interest.
