President of Pakistan visits Turkey on his first foreign visit

At the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi visited Turkey from 28-31 October 2018.  It was Dr. Alvi’s first visit to any foreign country after he assumed the office of the President of Pakistan.  President Dr. Arif Alvi accompanied by First Lady of Pakistan Begum Samina Alvi joined President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other world leaders at the inauguration ceremony of the newly built Istanbul Grand Airport. Pakistan’s participation was quite noticeable as President Arif Alvi and First Lady were seated next to Turkish President and First Lady of Turkey Emine Erdogan during the ceremony. Presidents of Pakistan and Turkey, accompanied by their spouses, pushed the button to inaugurate the airport. The inauguration ceremony was followed by Turkey’s Republic Day Reception, and later a banquet, hosted by President Erdogan. On the sidelines, the President separately called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Kyrgyzstan Mr. Sooronbay Jeenbekov and President of Albania Mr. Illir Meta. The President also met with a 20-member delegation of Pakistan-Turkey Business Council of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) of Turkey, a delegation of Zorlu Energy, and Chairman of Pakistan-Turkey Cultural Association Mr. Burhan Kayaturk. The President of Pakistan also had a detailed interaction with Istanbul-based Pakistan community.
